2010 Nursing Research Grants Fifty-five consecutive years of grant awards Grants totaling $ 4 million awarded to nearly 1000 nurse researchers Approximately 1/3 of ANF Scholars have received federal research funding Program established to encourage the research career development of all nurses Important source of funding for beginning and experience nurse researchers Endowed and externally funded awards

Funding Priority Total value of grants available: $ 228, Success rate for applications: 1 OUT OF 4 Priority for funding is based upon proposal’s scientific merit Consideration given to: Investigator’s ability to conduct the study Project’s potential for: –Further research –Methodology development –Theory development Innovation Specific criteria for certain awards

2010 Nursing Research Grants No specific priority give to topic area All types of research considered Master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation research will be considered only if project has been approved by committee Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval required before release of funds

Qualifications Principal investigator (PI) must be a registered nurse PI must have one degree, baccalaureate or higher in nursing Beginning and experienced nurse researchers are encouraged to apply Some grants specify level of expertise required

2010 Grant Levels 31 Grants available Grants awarded at the following levels: $3,000 (1) $3,500 (13) $4,500 (1) $5,000 (6) $7,500 (5) $10,000 (1) $20,000 (1) $25,000 (2) $28,000 (1) Postmark Deadline is May 3, Hard copy and CD/DVD with electronic files Grants awarded August 31, 2010 for 1-year period September 1, 2010 – August 31, 2011

Grant Application Tips One $100 application fee for all grants Some grants have restrictions set by either endowment or funding agency Determine whether your proposal meets the criteria for more than one funding mechanism 24 of 31 grants for experienced researchers –More than 3 research-based refereed journal publications –More than $15,000 as PI in extramural funding in one particular area 30 of 31 grants for beginning researchers If you don’t apply you will never get a grant!!!!
