What is corruption? Grand corruption acts committed at a high level of government at the expense of the public good Petty corruption everyday abuse of entrusted power by low- and mid-level public officials Political corruption a manipulation of policies, institutions and rules of procedure in the allocation of resources and financing by political decision makers

What are the costs? Corruption impacts societies in a multitude of ways. In the worst cases, it costs lives. Short of this, it costs people their freedom, health, or money. Political Economic Social Environmental

Political Corruption is a major obstacle to democracy and the rule of law.

Economic Corruption depletes national wealth, and also hinders the development of fair market structures and distorts competition.

Social Corruption corrodes the social fabric of society.

Environmental Ecological degradation is another consequence of corrupt systems.

Who cares? Yes, we do.

History In 1993, a few individuals in Germany decided to take a stance against corruption and created Transparency International. Now, present in more than 100 countries, the movement works relentlessly to stir the world’s collective conscience and bring about change.
