Pangaea Super Continent

Pangaea History  Alfred Wegener first proposed the idea in He called it “Continental Drift”.Wegener  He believed that all the continents were connected 200 Million years ago.  He named this Super-Continent Pangaea which means “All Land”.

Proof of Wegener’s Theory  1. Puzzle-like fit: Many of the continents will fit like a puzzle if put together.Puzzle-like fit  2. Fossil Clues: Fossils of the same plants and animals (Mesosaurus) (Glossopteris) were found on different continents separated by thousands of miles of water.MesosaurusGlossopteris

 3. Rock Clues: The exact type of rocks were found on the borders of different continents. 3. Rock Clues  4. Climate Clues: Glaciers and glacial deposits.glacial deposits

Are The Continents Still On The Move?  Answer: Yes.  The movement of the continents today causes Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Sea Floor Spreading, and the building of New Mountains.Sea Floor Spreading

Today’s Proof of Plate Tectonics  1. Fault lines move about 5- 30cm a year. This is about the same speed that your fingernails grow.

What the last 200 million years looked like.

The Earth as it is todayEarth
