 Grade 9 Math teachers will be asked to make recommendations for placement in a course where you will experience the most success.  If you wish to pursue course selection outside of the recommendation, you may be contacted by your school counsellor.  It is important to make decisions that will allow you to experience success.  There will be no changes permitted after March 20 th.  Students are not permitted to take failed first semester courses in second semester.

 With the introduction of the new Mathématiques 10 which awards 2 French Immersion credits, grade 10 FI students have some flexibility:  Take a Fine Arts course in English (Art, Music)  Take Science in English  Take another course other than Histoire Ancienne

All grade 10 students must take 8 credits Grade 11 students must carry 7 courses Grade 12 students must carry 6 courses 21 courses: Suggested load by HRSB

 International Program where students have the opportunity for enrichment by taking university level courses.  Students write actual AP exams in their grade 12 year. Depending on these exam results, students may qualify for first year university course exemptions.  English 12, Calculus 12, Physics 11/12, Chemistry 12, Biology 12  Students who are interested in Advanced Placement in grade 12 should enroll in advanced courses in grade 11 in Math, Science, and/or English.  AP criteria: Solid academic record, strong work ethic, well-developed study habits, willingness to complete work and desire to be challenged. Summer work packages are required in most of the subject areas.

 The three-year program is a combination of high school credits and hands-on learning, both in the classroom and in the workplace.  O2 class sizes are kept small to enable the students to receive support and personal attention  O2 students complete the same high school requirements as every other grade twelve student in order to receive their province of Nova Scotia high school diploma  Students interested in the O2 Program must fill out an application as part of the selection process. O2 interviews are scheduled in late February/March.

Students will have Math every day Academic level credit 2 grade 10 credits awarded- 1 academic mathematics credit + 1credit contributing to M/S/T requirement Required in order to take future academic or advanced courses. Designed for students who have demonstrated satisfactory achievement of grade nine math learning outcomes, with the recommendation of their Math teacher.  Mathematics at Work 10 : One credit course. Student will have Math every day for 1 semester Graduation level credit Designed for students who are struggling with, but passing, grade nine math. Designed for students aiming for programs of study that do not require academic Math  Mathematics Essentials 10: One credit course. Students will have Math every day for 1 semester Graduation level credit Designed for students who have successfully completed grade 8 math, but are not experiencing success in the grade 9 program. Designed for students aiming for programs of study that do not have any mathematics pre-requisites.

 Ensure that you choose 2 alternates that you would be willing to take should your course selections lead to a conflict or a course is not offered due to enrolment.  If you do not choose 2 alternates, courses will be chosen for you.
