Traffic Signs, Signals and Road Markings Lights Signs Pavement Markings Police overrule any of the devices
LIGHTS Vertical Horizontal Pyramid (left turns)
Colors are always the same to avoid confusion and not confuse color blind people.
RED = STOP YELLOW = STOP IF SAFE GREEN = PROCEED WHEN CLEAR
FLASHING YELLOW = Caution; slow down and proceed with care -slow down and cross intersection carefully when entering a flashing yellow intersection RED WITH GREEN ARROW = Proceed only as shown by arrow
FLASHING RED = Stop. Yield to traffic and pedestrians FLASHING RED = Stop. Yield to traffic and pedestrians. Go only when safe. A driver approaching a flashing red traffic signal must: stop before entering the intersection
SIGNS STOP = Octagon – 8 sides
Yield (think of it as a downward facing triangle)

Roundabout A one-way circular intersection in which traffic flows around a center island
Roadwork Ahead Drive the posted speed limit and look for the roadwork
MARKINGS SOLID = NO PASSING
DASHED = PASSING OK
WHITE LINES = separate traffic going the same way when there is more than one lane; show edges of roads YELLOW CENTER LINES= Traffic is going in the opposite direction(separates traffic flow) EDGE LINES – separate the shoulder from the travel lane and show the edges of highways.
YELLOW EDGE LINES- separate the shoulder from the travel lane and show the edge of the highway WHITE STOP LINES- shows where to stop at stop signs or traffic signals
DOUBLE MARKING – GO BY THE MARK CLOSEST TO YOU
Legal to pass.. When is it legal to pass on a double solid yellow line? When turning into a home driveway or a business
PAVEMENT ARROWS – HAVE TO PROCEED IN THE DIRECTION OF THE ARROW
SUICIDE LANE = LEFT TURNS ONLY (ST. GEORGE AVE)
Overrides What may override a light, sign, or pavement marking? Police and Emergency Vehicles
Unlit signals When approaching an unlit signal, you should: Stop if a signal is unlit and no police officer or other person is directing traffic Yield to traffic approaching from the right and left Proceed when clear
White Stop Lines Show: STOP LINE OR CROSSWALK = STOP 5 FEET BACK
If you come to a multi-way stop at the same time as another motorist you must: Yield to the motorist on the right
When approaching or entering an uncontrolled intersection you should: Reduce speed and be ready to stop
