Thone s Organisation of primary and secondary school (ages, classes …)

Nursery school There are 3 classes in nursery school: -We enter the first year of nursery school when we are 3 years old. We play to improve our language, learn colours and learn to interact with others. -We are in the second year of nursery school when we are 4 years old. We improve our knowledge of colours and we learn numbers. But we still play a lot. -The last year of nursery school is when we are 5 years old. We learn the alphabet and we begin to learn to write.

Elementary (primary) In primary we have 5 classes : CP, CE1, CE2, CM1, CM2 : -We enter CP when we are 7 years old. We learn how to read, write and count. -We are in CE1 when we are 8 years old. We improve our reading, writing and counting. -We are in CE2 when we are 8 years old. We begin to learn English. We continue with the school curriculum. -We are in CM1 when we are 9 years old. We learn Music. We continue with the school curriculum. -We are in CM2 when we are 10. We work to prepare for 6eme (secondary school).

We go to Junior high school from 11 to 15 years old : -When we are 11 years old, we are in 6 th grade. Our subjects are : Mathematics, English, Biology, French, Music, Art, History and Geography, PE and Technology. -When we are 12 years old, we are in 5 th grade. We have the same subjects, plus Physics and Chemistry and, as an option, Latin. -When we are 13 years old, we are in 4 th grade. We have a choice for the second foreign language : German, Italian or Spanish. -When we are 13 to 14 years old, we are in 3 rd Grade. We study the same subjects. Junior High (School)

We aren’t obliged to go to high school. We go from to 18 years old : -When we are 15, 16 years old, we are in 2 nd grade. We have the same subjects as in junior high school. -When we are 17 years old, we are in 1 st grade. We choose a section: literary, scientific or economic. The subjects are in accordance with the section. At the end of the year, we have a final examination in French literature. -When we are 18 years old, we are in “Terminale”. We have one extra subject : Philosophy and one less : French. At the end of the year, we have the final examination. High School

Alternative to the high school Instead of High school we can go to a professional school where you can learn a job. Between the ages of 6 and 16 it is obligatory to go to school (or get an education at home). Before and after these ages it isn't compulsory.
