BIENVENUE A LA CLASSE DE FRANCAIS ! Je m’appelle Mme Ransdall. Et toi?

I am so happy you chose to take French this year! You are going to learn a lot and we’re going to have fun too!

Your success in this class is very important to me. I am very, very happy to help you before or after school. If I’m not in this room, you may find me in the World Languages Office in Room 110. I teach in room 114 all hours plus Seminar. You may leave me a voice mail at or me at

My goals as your teacher: 1.To treat students fairly and with respect. 2.To teach the course to the best of my ability. 3.To meet your individual needs.

MY EXPECTATIONS OF MY STUDENTS: 1.RESPECT yourself, your classmates, your teacher or substitute teacher and the administration. 2.Be ACCOUNTABLE and RESPONSIBLE for all class requirements. 3.Take RESPONSIBLILITY for your own actions. 4.Put forth EFFORT and do your BEST.

RULES! 1.Be on time! 2.Try your best! 3.Actively participate!!! No sleeping,TEXTING, working for other classes!) 4.No lining up at the door at the end of the hour. 5.Be positive! No negative, hurtful or sarcastic comments. OUI, OUI ! NON, NON !!!!!

Puis-je aller aux toilettes? Don’t ask to use the toilettes if I am in the middle of explaining something or if you are doing a partner activity. If you spend an inordinate amount of time in the toilettes your privileges may be revoked. You are required to sign the clipboard each time you leave the room.

YOUR GRADE IS WEIGHTED! 20% HOMEWORK COMPLETION 20% PARTICIPATION (may be individual, group, class, partner, BRR) 60% TESTS (some will be pop quizzes, some will be oral assessments)

DEVOIRS HOMEWORK is a completion grade of 5 points per assignment. If you are absent you may turn in late work for full credit. If you miss an assignment and you were not absent, you may turn in the assignment late for 4/5 points.

EXAMENS Because it is imperative to understand one concept in a foreign language before moving on to another, it will be possible to re-take most tests for a maximum score of 85%. You will have to arrange do this on your own time: before or after school or during seminar. It may be necessary to show evidence of studying before being allowed to take the test.

Pardon, WHAT is a BRR??? Glad you asked. BRR stands for Bell Ringer Review. Every day there will be a BRR on the board. The purpose of the BRR is to remind you of something you have learned in the past and to focus you on what we are doing that day. You will do a week of BRRs on one sheet of paper that you will turn in on VENDREDI. For each one you must write the date en français. You will receive participation points for your BRRs. If you are absent you may copy another student’s BRR.

IN CASE OF FIRE: Follow RANS sign Go through MALL doors Cross student parking lot Meet at DOUBLE TREE island for ROLL CALL

ALTERNATE ROUTES: #1 EXIT EAST MALL DOOR (BY OFFICE) #2 EXIT SOUTH DOORS (PAST GYM)

IN CASE OF TORNADO: Stay here!

IN CASE OF CODE RED: Turn off lights Go to NE corner of class REMAIN QUIET If you are out of the class room, enter the nearest class and stay there.

Let’s review!!! (check for understanding!) Turn to a partner and see if you can answer these questions. What are the 3 categories that make up our grade? Homework, participation, tests. Do we have to do homework?? OUI. Why? It helps us learn and it hurts our grade if we don’t. What is a BRR?? It is a bell-ringer review that we do every day at the beginning of class. We keep a week’s worth on one sheet of paper and turn it in on Friday.

Why do we do BRRs? To review and to focus on the day’s lesson. Do we have to do them? YES!! Why?? It will hurt our participation grade if we don’t. In what language do we write the dates on our BRR sheet? EN FRANCAIS! Why? Because this is FRENCH class. Where do we go in case of a tornado drill? DOWNSTAIRS HALLWAY OUTSIDE OF ROOM K (proceed down west mall stairway). Where do we go in case of a fire drill? We follow the RANS sign through the mall doors across the student parking lot to the double deciduous trees. What do you do when you get there? Wait for Mme Ransdall to take roll.

How can we make good grades in French? Do homework daily! Participate in class and do BRRs! Study for tests! What if we are having a hard time understanding? Ask questions in class and come in for extra help before or after school or during seminar. Does Mme Ransdall want us to succeed in class? OUI, OUI, OUI. Is French the best foreign language at NW? OUI, OUI, OUI. Why? Because it is. Are we going to have fun this year? OUI, OUI, OUI. Are we going to learn a lot? OUI, OUI, OUI.
