Bienvenue à la classe de français! Monsieur Welch Français I, II, III and IV

Les Expectatives de la Classe { Classroom Expectations} Soyez respectueux/respectueuses.  Be respectful to your classmates, to classroom guests, to me and to yourself.  Be respectful of the time and place. No candy/gum, food or drink allowed.  Be respectful of the French language and cultures we study. Difference does not equal inferiority or superiority, only uniqueness. I would very much like to explore French speaking cultures around the world in depth this year.

Les Expectatives de la Classe { Classroom Expectations} Soyez responsable.  Be responsible. Arrive to class on time. I expect that you are in your seat when the bell rings. You must have a pass if you are late for any reason.  Be responsible. Come to class prepared to learn. I expect that you will be ready each day with a pen or pencil, an organized binder, paper, your workbook and any other materials necessary for your success.  Be responsible if you are absent from class. It is your responsibility to check my website or with a classmate and ask me about work that you missed.

Les Expectatives de la Classe { Classroom Expectations} Parlez français.  Speaking French is part of your grade and is absolutely essential for your progress and success! Soyez positifs/positives.  Be positive. If you are respectful and responsible, pay attention in class, stay positive and do your best work, you will be successful! Your experience and results are up to you!

Conséquences {Consequences}  Well, we’ll just have to see how things go, won’t we?  My experience is that BMS/RHS French students are awesome. I don’t dwell much on problems.  One warning: keep an organized notebook as instructed. No, really.

Que pourriez-vous vous attendre de moi? {What can you expect from me?}  Je vais parler français d’une manière que vous pouvez comprendre, peut-être un peu vite. {I will speak French in a way that you can understand, perhaps a bit fast. }  Nous allons faire beaucoup de travail et nous amuser. {We will do a lot of work and have a lot of fun. }  Je vais être disponible pour vous aider avec n’importe quel problème ou quelle question. {I will be available to help you with any question or problem. } * I am extremely organized and detail oriented. Take note.

Procédés du jour { Daily Procedures}  Arrive to class on time. Please be in your seat when the bell rings.  Pick up and number papers laid out for you.  Begin the bellwork assignment, if any, immediately; the bellwork task will always be posted on the board.  Have your completed homework on your desk to be checked or collected during bellwork.  During class, pay attention and put forth your best effort.  Please remain in your seat until the bell rings. Time up to the bell is mine to direct, not yours. Thank you.

Puis-je aller aux toilettes? {Bathroom Policy}  Class time is valuable, so use the restroom before or after class.  If you need to use the restroom, please go without asking. I don’t ask to go during class, so I don’t expect you to do so. Emergencies arise. No worries. If the administration instructs me to have a sign out sheet, it will be on the radiator – use it as posted before leaving. Never walk in front of the class. Thank you.  I will gladly accord you adult dignities. Please show me you deserve them by hardly ever leaving the class.

Devoirs {Homework}  You can expect to have approximately minutes of French homework on most school nights. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! Studying vocabulary is the most important thing you can do to be successful in learning French. I recommend that you review past and current vocabulary and grammar each night for at least 10 minutes.  Homework will be checked for completion daily, however, not all assignments will be collected and graded.  Late homework will only be allowed up to one day late for half credit.  I sometimes give a heads up if a homework assignment is important enough to be checked and/or graded. Sometimes.

Les Notes { Grading}  My classes are graded on total points. I assign points to tests, quizzes, writing assignments, homework based on their importance and the amount of work we put into accomplishing them. That is their weighting in my view.  Everything you do is adding to the total points for the quarter. It should be easy for you to gauge how you are doing.

Questions?  If you need help, just ask after class! I am always available for extra help and review sessions after school.  My prep periods are 2, 5 and 7. Êtes-vous prêts/prêtes pour une année formidable? {Are you ready for a great year?} Nous allons apprendre le français et nous amuser bien au même temps! {We’re going to learn French and have fun at the same time.}
