Cite-Checking 101 by Annette Demers BA LLB MLIS

Cite Checking is a Three Part Process

1.Locate the original source materials. 2. Verify that the content of the quoted materials is in the source as cited. 3. Verify that the citation itself is a) accurate and b) formatted properly.

Locate the original source materials. 1.Decipher the citation. 2.Check all available sources through U Windsor. 3.Place ILL request for sources that are not available on campus.

Step 2: Check all available sources through U Windsor Cases: Pre-2000 – locate the print version in the law library using the catalogue. After-2000 – locate using an online source.

Step 3: Interlibrary Loans 1.If you absolutely cannot find – check with the Reference Librarians before moving to step 2 below. 2. Place ILL request for sources that are not available on campus. You must give us sufficient notice (2 weeks prior to your deadline, minimum).
