CHRISTIAN TEACHINGS ON STEWARDSHIP AND THE RELIEF OF POVERTY. WRITE DOWN AT LEAST ONE SENTENCE ABOUT EACH SLIDE.

STEWARDSHIP LOOKING AFTER THINGS ON BEHALF OF SOMEONE ELSE GOD CREATED THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO CHRISTIANS. THIS GIFT SHOULD BE LOOKED AFTER BY MAN.

JESUS TAUGHT THAT GOD SAID THAT HUMANS SHOULD PASS ON THE EARTH TO THE NEXT GENERATION AND IT SHOULD BE LOOKED AFTER.

CHRISTIANS BELIEVE THAT THE EARTH’S RESOURCES SHOULD BE SHARED OUT FAIRLY AMONG EVERYONE ON THE EARTH.

GOD MADE THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING WITHIN IT? WHERE DID WE COME FROM?

DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS IN THE NEXT TWO SLIDES.

This story shows how to make the right use of the riches that God gives us. You can read this story in the Bible: Matthew 25: One day a certain wealthy man called his servants and said to them, "I am going on a journey, and you will be looking after my property." To one of the servants the master gave five talents. A "Talent" was a measure of silver weighing several kilograms. That was a huge sack of silver! So you understand, five talents was a real fortune. To another servant the master gave two talents, and to another one talent. Each servant received according to his ability. The servant who received five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. But the third servant went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with his servants. The man who received five talents came to him and said, "Master, you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more." His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful with a few things; so I will gladly put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" The second man came and put four sacks before his master. "Master! Here is what I have earned. You entrusted me with two talents, I have gained two more. Here, take it." His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" Then the man who received one talent came. "My master! I knew that you are a hard man. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you." "You wicked, lazy servant!" cried the master angrily. "Did I give you the talent so that you would dig a hole and put it in the ground? You should have put my money on deposit, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents!" God has endowed every one of us with talents. He wants us to develop our talents. Use properly what God has given you, work on it, and you will receive more. And a lazy person will lose even what he now has.

The Parable of the Sheep & Goats

Learning Objectives 1.To be able to re-tell the parable of the sheep & goats. 2.To understand that the parable is teaching about judgement of humans.

A parable is a story with a meaning There are many parables in the New Testament section of the Bible Jesus used parables to help teach people

To help teach the people about how to live and about final judgement Jesus told them the parable of the sheep and goats Read the Parable of the Sheep & Goats Matthew 25:31-46

Read the Parable of the Sheep & Goats Matthew 25:31-46 ACTIVITY 1

25:31 “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 25:32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 25:33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 25:34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 25:35 for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. 25:36 I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.’

.’ 25:37 “Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? 25:38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? 25:39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?’ 25:40 “The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ 25:41 Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; 25:42 for I was hungry, and you didn’t give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 25:43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t take me in; naked, and you didn’t clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’brothers

25:44 “Then they will also answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’ 25:45 “Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’ 25:46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

The Parable of the Sheep & Goats

ACTIVITY 2 Discuss in pairs the main teaching points of the parable

G O A T S The bad/unrighteous Didn’t give drink Didn’t give food Didn’t give clothes Didn’t give shelter Didn’t visit those in jail Didn’t look after the sick H E L L S H E E P The Good/righteous Gave drink Gave food Gave clothes Gave shelter Visited those in jail Looked after the sick H E A V E N

Key terms Omnipotent having unlimited power; able to do anything Benevolent kind and helpful Omnipresent present or having an effect everywhere at the same time:

Key teachings At the end of the world God will judge people on their behaviour & the choices they have made. God will separate the good from the bad like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. On his right will be the GOOD (sheep). They will be with him in heaven. On his left will be the bad (goats). They will be sent away from him to hell. God judges us on how we treat our fellow humans. As we are all created in His image.

Another Christian response to the problems of evil & suffering God created us free to make our own choices & behave however we choose. However, at the end of the world we will be held accountable by God. Those who do good will be rewarded. Those who do bad will be punished. Therefore, God does care, does have power and does take responsibility.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan Lk10: 25-37

A teacher of the law came up and tried to trap Jesus “Teacher”, he asked, “what must I do to receive eternal life?” Jesus answered him “What do the scriptures say? How do you interpret them?” The man answered “Love the lord your God with all your heart, with all your strength and with all your mind.” and “love your neighbour as you love yourself”. “You are right” Jesus replied, “Do this and you will live”. But the teacher of the Law wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus “Who is my neighbour?” There was once a man who was going from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attacked him, and beat him up, leaving him half dead.

It so happened that a priest was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he walked by, on the other side of the road. In the same way, a Levite came along and went over and looked at the man, and then walked on by, on the other side. But a Samaritan who was travelling that way came upon the man, and when he saw him his heart was filled with pity. He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on his own animal and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.

The Meaning of the Parable Jesus told the Parable of the Good Samaritan to emphasise that no matter what race, religion, class… you belong to, we should treat everyone with respect, dignity and equality. Jesus taught us to love our neighbour as we love ourselves, and that includes our enemies!
