October 24 th, 2013 Free the Children It is not ALL about ME, it is about ALL of us, WE. Let’s change our thinking from ME to WE and create a chain reaction of CHANGE!

 We Day is an educational event and the movement of our time—a movement of young people leading local and global change. We Day is tied to the yearlong We Act program, which offers curricular resources, campaigns and materials to help turn the day’s inspiration into sustained activation.

 The video will be available on the opening page… 

 The video on this opening page will show all of the commitment and the contributions from Free the Children contributors including programs that we participated in that made a clear difference.  days-impact/

 Free the Children donated $ for initiatives in water, giving people water for life.  Donated $ to God’s Littlest Angels  Filled 700 Backpacks and Donated $ to our local Backpack Fund  $ donated from the Food Service Project  Donated to the Cancer Society  Participated in We Create Change, We are Silent, and We Scare Hunger. This is just the “Free the Children” Initiatives. (There numbers are not all of our school service projects)

One Drop- Cirque Performance Shawn Desman Martin Sheen Liz Murray- Homeless Orphan to Harvard- Success in a Difficult Time! LightsLarry King Hedley Spencer West: Climbed Kilimanjaro with his hands- walked Calgary to Edmonton. Craig and Marc…Role Models. The boys put this into action at the ages 12 and 14.

 There are lots of rumors as to who is presenting at We Day Alberta, but the schedule is not finalized…. At the We Day the weeks before and after Alberta, there is Spencer West, Kofi Annan, Martin Luther King Jr. III (his son), Hedley, Down with Webster, Molly Burke, Col. Chris Hadfield? ?? We have no idea but the possibilities are endless…and there were many special guests that came to We Day last year. For example; Demi Lovato makes Free the Children her only charity and a priority to show up at all Free the Children events that she can.

 You can’t buy a ticket to We Day, you earn your way through being a role model, a Christian Witness, and being a disciple of service locally and globally.  Our school has been given approximately 25 tickets for our entire school. We want serious participants who want to make a difference in the lives of others. We are looking for Gryphons that want to represent John Paul II in a real, meaningful and positive way to help others in the process….

 On your own time, go to the redeemer.ab.ca/John Paul II  Find the teacher SharePoint-Homework Pages, and find Miss MacNeil.  Under assignments, there is a We Day Application Sheet. The application is for you to reflect on the questions, give your best answers that are honest and the best representation of you on the paper.  The application sheet are due on Friday, October 4 th, 2013 by 3pm. (No Exceptions-this will apply because we have so few tickets)

 Teachers will review your application with a smaller committee of interested teachers. A decision will be made if you continue to the next stage and then they are randomly chosen from these great applications.  Last year, we received 76 applications. All were great applicants but we could only take 30 people. Preference is given to those who have NOT attended before. Earning a ticket to We Day is a super big deal!  Transportation, dates, times and other logistical details will only be given to those people who have earned a ticket to We Day!

 Questions, Comments, Concerns can be directed toward Ms. MacNeil.  You do not have to check in with me to drop off your application.  There will be a drop off envelope on my back bulletin board for applications, and a sheet for you to sign that your application has gone in. (You can then out it in a break, etc.)
