How to be one of those students on the stage during the Senior Honors & Awards Ceremony

 Procrastinate!! (put things off)  Pay money to receive scholarship information  Your Counselors, the CCC and the Scholarship Committee will let you know about scholarship opportunities that come in or will help you find out about scholarship opportunities  Pay money for FAFSA information  The CCC will help you fill out these forms  Take out 1 or even more credit cards  Financial aid organizations will think you don’t need their help  Miss Deadlines Things to definitely NOT do:

 Keep a calendar marked with critical dates  Get things done early if at all possible  Retake your ACT Exam  The higher your score the more schools that will accept you  Some scholarships require high scores  Always apply to at least 2 schools, if not more  Acceptance is not guaranteed  You may find out that the school of your choice is too expensive for you and your family Things to DO:

 Vocational programs (Dunwoody, Henn Tech)  Community Colleges (Normandale, MCTC)  State Colleges (MN State, Southwest State)  University of Minnesota (5 campuses)  Private Colleges (Carleton, St. Thomas)  Proprietary Schools (Rasmussen, NAU)  Check with former students on what they think of the education they received from these types of schools. There are scholarships available for all these types of schools! Types of Post Secondary Schools

 Search for and apply for as many scholarships as you can!  Don’t just rely on Scholarships from Edison.  Always ask for help whenever you are in need  Always check your applications over with another person to cross check for errors  Remember that your application is the first impression the college/scholarship committees have of you. Be very neat and fill out a rough draft of your application first. Things to DO:

The CCC, Room 219 Ms. Guerin & Volunteers will help you with: College applications ACT Registration Edison Scholarships Other Scholarships FAFSA (after January 1 st ) Where can you get Help? Your Counselor can help your with: Credits Transcripts

Help available in January after winter break in the CCC. Prepare your parents to have 2013 tax information done as soon as possible after January 31  The sooner you get it done, the more aid you are likely to get.  As the schools and government come to the end of their pots of aid, those who ask later have to divide up what is left. Prepare for yourself as well if you have earned over $2,200 – money is subtracted from financial aide F.A.F.S.A. You need to complete this for colleges/universities to offer you financial aid. This is where those students whose names were called over and over got all those scholarship dollars!

 Available at the beginning of January for students attending 4 year colleges only  need to re apply again after 2 years, must have a B average at that time  College must be in Minnesota, a reciprocity state or be a Historically Black College  Must have passed all GRAD Tests at the time of application.  Must have at least a score of “19” on your ACT. Wallin Applications

Out during April or early May. Students must be willing to do a community service project each year to retain their scholarship. Page Scholarship Applications
