Writer’s Workshop Mini-lessons: focus on skills, what makes good writing Write with choice: students choose what to write about much of the time. Genre Studies –Poetry –Persuasive writing –Letters –Personal narrative –Essays –Reports –Scientific writing

Word Study 12 Units consisting of: –Spelling lessons –Language and vocabulary lessons –Dictionary and thesaurus lessons –Units are done between September and May. The teacher decides when and how long for each unit. –A post-test is given, but the main focus is studying the spelling patterns and word usage.
