How do you write a problem- solution essay? For a problem/solution essay to work, it must present a clearly defined problem, present and explain possible solutions and conclude by restating the problems and the benefits of the solution.

A successful problem/solution essay: clearly states the problem and explains its significance explores all aspects of the problem, especially its causes and effects offers one or more solutions and how to implement those solutions uses supporting details: anecdotes, facts, examples, and statistics uses logic to persuade the audience explains what readers can do to solve the problem

Revising Make sure details support your statements. 1. Reread your rough draft. around your supporting details and reasons. If you do not have enough boxes, or if the details are weak or don’t make- sense, add strong,solid supporting information. Draw a box

Sentence Fluency Highlight the first word of each sentence in both the problem and solution paragraphs. Number your sentences. Number your paper with the same number of sentences you have. Write the first word down, and count the number of words in each sentence. Change either the first word or sentences if needed

Use strong, specific verbs 2. Use strong, specific verbs. verbs like is, are, has and do that don’t give readers much information. Replace some of these verbs with precise action verbs. Change nouns or verbs for better word choice. Should have at least 6 good examples of revision for better word choice. Circle

Edit/Proofreading Check to make sure you have capitalized each first word of each sentence. Check your capitalization: Proper Nouns Check for comma usage, do you need to pause, put in a comma. Check your spelling Make sure each sentence has a subject and a predicate. Check the rubric to make sure you have followed guidelines If you have time, have a friend look over your essay.

Final copy You are expected to write out your final paper with all revision. This is your best work. We will type this in on Thursday or Friday. Do not type this at home.
