CLOUD COMPUTING There is no unique and standard definition out there However, it is generally accepted that CC refers to a new IT paradigm for users One of those definitions: Cloud computing is a style of computing paradigm in which typically real-time scalable resources such as files, data, software, hardware, and third party services can be accessible from a Web browser via the Internet to users SZABIST

CHARACTERISTICS Remotely hosted: Services or data are hosted on remote infrastructure. Ubiquitous: Services or data are available from anywhere. Commodified: The result is a utility computing model similar to traditional that of traditional utilities, like gas and electricity - you pay for what you would want! SZABIST

CC-LAYERS Concept generally incorporates combinations of the following Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) Platform as a service (PaaS) Software as a service(SaaS) SZABIST

CC-LAYERS (SaaS)  In this model, cloud providers install and operate application software in the cloud and cloud users access the software from cloud clients. .EG: Google App, MS Office 365 (PaaS)  The PaaS provider will deliver the platform on the web, and in most of the cases you can consume the platform using your browser, i.e. no need to download any software. (IaaS) This is the base layer of the cloud stack .It serves as a foundation for the other two layers, for their execution.EG: windows azure VM Google App Engine SZABIST

Cloud Computing Service Layers Services Description Services Application Development Platform Storage Hosting Services – Complete business services such as PayPal, OpenID, OAuth, Google Maps, Alexa Application Focused Application – Cloud based software that eliminates the need for local installation such as Google Apps, Microsoft Online Development – Software development platforms used to build custom cloud based applications (PAAS & SAAS) such as SalesForce Platform – Cloud based platforms, typically provided using virtualization, such as Amazon ECC, Sun Grid Infrastructure Focused Storage – Data storage or cloud based NAS such as CTERA, iDisk, CloudNAS Hosting – Physical data centers such as those run by IBM, HP, NaviSite, etc. SZABIST 6

VIRTUALIZATION Virtual workspaces: Data and applications are managed across a number of hardware devices only allocating as much space as needed at any one time Providing virtualized computing resources, whether virtual machines or remote desktop service SZABIST

TYPES OF CLOUDS CLOUDS: 1. Public Cloud 2. Private Cloud 3. Community Cloud 4. Hybrid Cloud SZABIST

Public cloud  Applications, storage, and other resources are made available to the general public by a service provider. These services are free or offered on a pay-per-use model. Generally, public cloud service providers like Microsoft and Google own and operate the infrastructure and offer access only via Internet (direct connectivity is not offered).  SZABIST

Community cloud Community cloud shares infrastructure between several organizations from a specific community with common concerns (security, compliance, jurisdiction, etc.), The costs are spread over fewer users than a public cloud (but more than a private cloud), so only some of the cost savings potential of cloud computing are realized.  SZABIST

Hybrid cloud  Hybrid cloud is a composition of two or more clouds (private, community or public) that remain unique entities but are bound together, offering the benefits of multiple deployment models. By utilizing "hybrid cloud" architecture, companies and individuals are able to obtain degrees of fault tolerance combined with locally immediate usability without dependency on internet connectivity. SZABIST

Private cloud  Private cloud is cloud infrastructure operated solely for a single organization, whether managed internally or by a third-party and hosted internally or externally. They have attracted criticism because users "still have to buy, build, and manage them" and thus do not benefit from less hands-on management, SZABIST

Purpose and Benefits Cloud computing enables companies and applications, which are system infrastructure dependent, to be infrastructure-less. By using the Cloud infrastructure on “pay as used and on demand”, all of us can save in capital and operational investment! Clients can: Put their data on the platform instead of on their own desktop PCs and/or on their own servers. They can put their applications on the cloud and use the servers within the cloud to do processing and data manipulations etc. SZABIST

Disadvantages of Cloud Computing Requires a constant Internet connection: Cloud computing is impossible if you cannot connect to the Internet. Does not work well with low-speed connections: Similarly, a low-speed Internet connection, such as that found with dial-up services, makes cloud computing painful at best and often impossible. Stored data can be lost: Theoretically, data stored in the cloud is safe, replicated across multiple machines. But on the off chance that your data goes missing, you have no physical or local backup. Put simply, relying on the cloud puts you at risk if the cloud lets you down. SZABIST

THANK YOU!!!  SZABIST
