Microsoft Windows 10 Windows 10 for Enterprise became available Saturday morning (Aug 1) Sent to the IT Service Desk for testing –Installation itself works fine We are working on KMS activation now –An OCIO Change request has been put in to update the KMS server 3

Microsoft Windows 10 - Versions Windows 10 has four versions: –Home –Professional –Education –Enterprise Enterprise and Education are the two primarily available for use at OSU –They have all the same features, except for two apparent differences 4

Microsoft Windows 10 5 The upgrade path is different for the two versions –Enterprise allows for upgrades from Pro or Enterprise versions of Windows only. –Education allows for upgrades from Home, Pro, or Enterprise versions. State hardware standards include Windows Pro licenses, so this is mostly a minor issue

Microsoft Windows 10 6 There are new forms of upgrade support: –With the education SKU, you will have the choice to have it deploy automatically when it releases initially or go with the short branch option (aka “Current Branch for Business”). That option holds off the roll out until it has been market tested. –The enterprise option has what is called the Long Branch Service. This allows the roll out to be delayed longer if needed.

Renewals: ArcGIS New codes received Monday, July 27 –Server updated on Thursday, July 30, to run through the 2016 year –Now supports If you have ArcGIS server licenses you require, send MAC for the server(s) to and with a subject of: “ArcGIS Server License Creation” Pricing will be the same as last year 12

Renewals: MATLAB New quote obtained Price increase included in it –We will be examining toolboxes, and working on IPEDs counts to see if there is room to move the price down –The cost shares are changing this year, as well, with OCIO no longer supporting the license financially There are additional departments with usage that we may approach 15

Renewals: Minitab Expires August 30 No expected impact to customers (no warning notice expected, or license gap) –We will require a maintenance window to update the license manager, communicated to DistCons 16

SLS Chargeback Models Purchasing is reviewing a usage-based model to supplement discussion on FTE- based models –We have obtained all request information for copies of all software downloaded –Advantages of Usage-Based Real picture of what’s in use where Easy to track No issue with products with a “counted” license –Disadvantages Harder to predict Will lead to lower usage of more powerful software (and thus, lower value for those purchases) 19
