I NPUT -O UTPUT D EVICES The computer is dependent upon data and instructions before it can perform any computation and produce the result. Input devices which used to enter data. 6 Business Computer Application

I NPUT D EVICES Keyboard : is perhaps the most popular widely used device for entering data and instruction in a computer system. Mouse: is pointing device and its small hand held box and used to position the cursor on screen. Trackball and Space ball: pointing device, it consists of a ball which is fitted on a box. The ball can be rotated with the fingers or palm of the hand to move the cursor on the screen. Joystick: used to move the cursor position on the screen. Touch panel : It allows the display object or screen positions to be selected by the touch of a finger. 7 Business Computer Application

O UTPUT D EVICES Screen: A monitor or display (sometimes called a visual display unit) is a piece of electrical equipment which displays images generated by devices such as computers, without producing a permanent record.electrical equipment computers Printers: In computing, a printer is a peripheral which produces a hard copy (permanent readable text and/or graphics) of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper or transparencies. 10 Business Computer Application

M ODERN PRINT TECHNOLOGY Toner-based printers : by adhering toner to a light-sensitive print drum, then using static electricity to transfer the toner to the printing medium to which it is fused with heat and pressuretoner Liquid inkjet printers: printers operate by propelling variably-sized droplets of liquid or molten material (ink) onto almost any sized page. Solid ink printers Dye-sublimation printers: is a printer which employs a printing process that uses heat to transfer dye to a medium such as a plastic card, paper or canvas.canvas 11 Business Computer Application

C HARACTERISTICS O F C OMPUTER 1. Speed: The computer is a very high speed electronic device. The operations on the data inside the computer are performed through electronic circuits according to the given instructions. 2. Accuracy: computer is also very accurate device. it gives accurate output result provided that the correct input data and set of instructions are given to the computer. 3. Diligence : A computer can continually work for hours without creating any error. It does not get tired while working after hours of work it performs the operations with the same accuracy as well as speed as the first one. 4. Storage: A computer has internal storage (memory) as well as external or secondary storage. In secondary storage, a large amount of data and programs (set of instructions) can be stored for future use. 12 Business Computer Application

C HARACTERISTICS O F C OMPUTER 5. Versatility: versatile means flexible. Modern computer can perform different kind of tasks one by one of simultaneously. It is the most important feature of computer. At one moment your are playing game on computer, the next moment you are composing and sending s etc. In colleges and universities computers are use to deliver lectures to the students. The talent of computer is dependent on the software. 6. Automation: A computer can automatically perform operations without interfering the user during the operations. It controls automatically different devices attached with the computer. It executes automatically the program instructions one by one. 7. Communications: Today computer is mostly used to exchange messages or data through computer networks all over the world. For example the information can be received or send throug the internet with the help of computer. It is most important feature of the modern information technology. 13 Business Computer Application
