VAYERA “AND HE APPEARED” Genesis/B’reisheet 18:1 – 22:24 “Yitzchak is Born”

Abraham Has Three Visitors God sent three men to visit Abraham and his wife Sarah in the desert. Then the man said, “I will come back in a year and your wife will have a son.”

Sarah Laughs Sarah was listening from inside the tent. She laughed to herself when she heard this because she was 89 years old! “Why did Sarah just laugh? Is anything too hard for God?” Yeshua said, “All things are possible with God.” (Mark 10:27)

Sarah’s Reaction Sarah was afraid. She couldn’t believe that this person heard her and knew her thoughts. So she lied and said that she didn’t laugh. Sarah lied because she was afraid.

Abraham Continues to Trust God Abraham believed God and trusted that God would keep His promises. The promise did not come true until Abraham was 100. Abraham had to wait a long time to see God’s promise. He tried to do things his way instead of God’s way. He had a son named Ishmael.

Yitzchak Is Born! Even when Abraham tried to do things his way, God kept His promise and gave a son to him and Sarah. They named him Yitzchak (Isaac). His name means “laughter.”

Abraham Tested God told Abraham to take his son Yitzchak (Isaac), and go to the mountain in the land of Moriah. There he was going to kill Yitzchak (Isaac) and offer him as an offering to the LORD Abraham and his son went up the mountain together. Yitzchak (Isaac) said to his father, “Father, where is the lamb we need for the sacrifice?” Abraham answered, “God will give us the lamb for the sacrifice.”

The Binding of Yitzchak – Akedah עקדה Abraham was about to kill Yitzchak (Isaac) when an angel shouted, "Do not lay a hand on the boy," Abraham looked over and saw a ram caught in the bushes. He used it as a sacrifice on the altar instead of his son, Yitzchak (Isaac).

Yitzchak and Yeshua ComparisonYitzchakYeshua Promised SonGenesis 17:16Isaiah 7:14 Supernatural BirthGenesis 17:16Luke 1:34 Offered on a mountain, hillGenesis 22:2Matt. 21:10 Took donkey to place of sacrificeGenesis 22:3Matt. 21:2-11 Son carried wood on his back up hillGenesis 22:6John 19:17 Son was offered on the woodGenesis 22:9Luke 23:33 Willingly offered to be a sacrificeGenesis 22:7-8Colossians 2:6-8 Both sons were "resurrected" or "given back" to their fathers Genesis 22:4 Matthew 16-20; Acts 10:40; 1 Corinthians 15:4.

Yeshua is Better Than Yitzchak The 3 visitors were considered angels. One of the three visitors was God Himself! God loved the world so much that He sent his son. Yeshua became a blessing to all people because He made the way for us to get to Heaven.

Let's Learn Hebrew! Last week we learned the Hebrew word for “father”. The Hebrew word for this week is “Ben”. In English the word Ben means “Son”. Yitzchak was the “son” or “Ben” of Abraham. Av - Father Ben - Son

Mark 10:27 Yeshua looked at them and said, "With man, that is impossible. But not with God. All things are possible with God."

What Did We Learn Today? Three angels came to announce Yitzchak’s birth. Sarah laughed at the news of Yitzchak’s birth, Yitzchak means laughter! There are many ways that Yitzchak can teach us about Yeshua.
