An Evaluation of Planning and Scheduling Operations in Services A Thesis Proposal By Samuel Chukwuemeka Department of Computer Science Troy University Montgomery Submitted to Dr. Irem Ozkarahan February, 2013

Abstract Planning and Scheduling are decision-making processes There is the need to plan and schedule due to the limited resources available to satisfy numerous wants or activities Planning and Scheduling is used in service industries to allocate few resources to activities yet to be completed They use mathematical and heuristic methods to allocate these resources Despite the numerous delivery of online courses using these systems, the effectiveness of online learning is still being questioned Hence, the evaluation of these course management systems is necessary to maximize learning. The different course management systems and their features shall be studied An evaluation and analysis of these systems and their effectiveness on learning, shall be done using appropriate statistical techniques Possible alternatives / improvements shall be recommended.
