 Concept for course was born out of:  A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink  The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman  Sir Ken Robinson—Changing Education Paradigms (Youtube clip)

 Course Code Directory – Teacher must be certified in Art/Art Education  DOE Course Description  First draft course description  The course writers’ first draft of this course description is being shared to help teachers develop possible approaches to researching and teaching the course. In no way does this draft version supersede the officially adopted DOE course description. Underlined portions reflect sentences in the adopted description.

 Possible approaches 1. Inquiry-based learning 2. Problem-based learning 3. Project-based learning 4. Business process management  Where to start?

 Identify issues/questions to research and develop their own knowledge & solutions.

 Student-centered pedagogy where learning takes place through the experience of collaborative problem solving (Self-Directed Learning)  Similar to inquiry-based but on smaller scale.

 Collaborative groups form their own investigation of a guiding question, to develop valuable research skills as students engage in design, problem solving, decision making and investigative activities.

 Holistic management approach to align an organization’s business process with wants and needs of clients through collaboration.  Promotes business effectiveness and efficiency while striving for innovation, flexibility, and integration with technology.

 Online examples Three Hours, Two Towers created by Fivay High School, Pasco County The 2012 Florida History Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Eric Johnson of Fivay High School in Hudson, FL.  Book resources (shared list)

 Warm-up exercises to change ways of thinking  Alex F. Osborn—popularized brainstorming, wrote Applied Imagination, 1953  SCAMPER (Bob F. Eberle)  R & R journals (Research & Reflective)  Shorter inquiry-based projects that are teacher-driven  Teacher then becomes facilitator

 A “checklist” type creative thinking tool that helps people to think of changes to an existing product or problem. 1. Substitute something. 2. Combine it with something else. 3. Adapt something to it. 4. Modify or Magnify it. 5. Put it to some other use. 6. Eliminate something. 7. Reverse or Rearrange it.

 Recruiting students  Collaboration possibilities  Clarify differences between collaboration and group work  Ways to assess (classroom & district)  Your thoughts?

 Dana Warner  Supervisor, K-12 Art Education  Hillsborough County Public Schools   Work  Cell
