Litter in Numbers Most litter happens within 5 metres of a garbage can. 1 On average, a person will carry garbage 12 paces before littering. 1 Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the Earth 4 times. 2 A glass bottle can take up to 1 million years to biodegrade
