Graduation Requirements Pass the California High School Exit Exam 2-part test (Math and ELA) Passing Score of 350 required 230 Credits to Graduate Each class = 5 Credits per semester Each course = 10 credits per year 9 th – 11 th Required to take 6 classes per semester

CAHSEE EnglishEnglish Multiple Choice and writing sections MathematicsMathematics Multiple Choice Must pass both sections with a score of: 350+ to meet graduation requirement. First Exam given March of Sophomore year. If you do not pass either portion of the CAHSEE, you must retake that section. Future CAHSEE exams will be given in your junior and senior years

UC and CSU Requirements (A – G ) ALL classes must be passed with a grade of C or better UC minimumGPA for admission is 3.0 GPA calculated from Sophomore and Junior year for UC approved courses only The A – G list represents only the minimum requirements.

College Entrance Exams  PSAT Practice SAT recommended but not required for college acceptance Taken during Junior year in order to compete for National Merit Scholarship Given in October Purchase exam at Student Store  ACT and/or SAT Reasoning Test Taken during the spring of Junior year and no later than December of Senior year.

Honors or Advanced Placement Courses What courses are offered? –HONORS CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN: Geography, Geometry, Algebra 2, English 1, Biology Why take an honors or advanced course? –Students receive an extra grade point for all honors/AP courses(i.e.:B grade is weighted as an A) –Students can receive college credit for taking the AP exam and passing it with a 3 or higher. –Students are academically challenged to meet their abilities for advanced learning

Honors Classes Honors Classes Criteria for Placement How do you sign up for Honors or AP courses? Teacher approval is needed. Students need to complete an annual Honors Contract Form signed by student and parent. Students need to score advanced or proficient on their California Subject Test. Completion of a summer assignment is a must. –Assignments will be posted on THS website by grade level in May. **Download an honors packet from the counseling website for more information**

Challenge Cards – You may challenge the placement of your student Once enrolled in honors or AP course, student must stay in the class for the remainder of the year Challenge Cards can be obtained in front office Honors or Advanced Placement Courses
