HOLLISTIC FIX OF RELIABILITY & QUALITY MANAGEMENT PREREQUISITES (12th standard) Basic Knowledge of Probability. Usage of Probability & its applications Knowledge of Statistics Knowledge of Calculus

HOLLISTIC FIX………Continued PRE REQUISTES (7th Semester) Basic VLSI Fundamentals of Digital Electronics Fundamentals of Network Analysis

HOLLISTIC FIX OF RQM………CONTINUED ADVANCE COURSE Quality Management ( MBA ) M.Tech in RQM Radar & Navigation Optical Fiber Communication

HOLLISTIC FIX OF DC…….Continued SCOPE IN RELATED FIELDS… Mobile Communication Wireless Technologies Microprocessors Integrated Circuits Aerospace Networking

KEY CONCEPTS OF RQM RELIABILITY Reliability, in its simplest form, means that a failure may not occur in a given time interval . Reliability emphasizes on four elements: 1) Probability, 2) Intended Function, 3) Time 4) Operating Conditions

FAILURES • Fault: anything that has gone wrong • Failure: an equipment problem • All failures are faults • Examples: If a transport system stops due to – particles that are normal to the process, then it is a failure (and a fault). – a left wrench inside, then it’s a fault but not a failure.

MAINTAINABILITY Maintainability can be defined as the probability that failed equipment is restored to operable conditions in a specified time i.e. down time .

AVAILABILITY The steady state availability is defined as the proportion of time during which equipment is available for use. Availability = Uptime \ Uptime + down time

Probability Probability= Total no. of ways event can occur/Total no. of possible outcomes

Random Variables Fig. showing certain dots selected from large no. of dots Also watch-- http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/showVideo.php?v=p6lze5nPkzk

SYSTEM RELIABILITY Reliability of Systems in series Reliability of Systems in parallel Reliability of Systems in series-parallel Reliability of Non series-parallel systems

ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS RELIABILITY Electronic components can be caused to fail by fatigue, creep, wear, corrosion along with electrical & thermal stresses. Reliability of well-designed, well-manufactured electronic systems is extremely high, & there are no practical limits to the reliability that can be achieved with reasonable care & expenditure .

CIRCUIT & SYSTEM ASPECTS Distortion,Jitter,Timing,Electromagnetic interference are some of the circuit & system aspects. Also,a large proportion of the failures of modern electronic system are of intermittent nature.

KEY RESEARCH AREA OF DIGITAL COMMUNICATION Research areas in cluster of DC: Fast Multiple Access more than the speed of light. To reduce the complexity & cost of Receiver & Transmitter used in DC components. To reduce the noise to a zero level Efficient long range communications To increase the Channel Capacity
