Adding Adjectives to Describe Nouns Teacher Page

Teacher Page Students will write news stories to accompany each picture that depicts hurricane disaster. You can choose to have each student write a story with one picture, have students work in teams or partnerships, write class stories, etc. It might be helpful to print the pictures for students to use for their writing. After stories are written, students can record their broadcasts with Audacity (free download), Easi-speak mic (if you have one), Google Voice account (free to sign up), or any other audio recorder that you have available.

The worst hurricane in history has just destroyed much of your hometown. People are trapped inside their homes with only a news radio to let them know what is going on outside of their own four walls. You are the local news radio reporter, and you are live on the scene. You must report to your audience exactly what you see. They want detailed descriptions and specifics. As you visit each of the disaster locations on the slides that follow, write a story to accompany each picture to share with your fellow citizens. Remember to use lots of adjectives to give them a clear picture of what you see. Adjectives describe what kind, how many, color, and size. Then, record your radio broadcast using an audio voice recorder. The worst hurricane in history has just destroyed much of your hometown.
