Block Diagram

Design Considerations Device will be small and relatively portable but powered directly. Box style shape for use on a flat surface. Connections on the rear face, interface and controls on the top face. Most of the internal space is taken by the PCB and arrangement of external connections. External space mainly used by an LCD with some controls.

Analyzed Product: Roland WAV/MP3 Recorder

Simple Portable WAV/MP3 Recorder Symmetric controls on the top face with menu navigations centered Connections on back face (SD Card layered to save width) Some connections (Power/USB) on the side Maximizes usability by providing useful physical controls to reduce GUI navigation and complexity.

Analyzed Product: JL Cooper ES-450-JE

Audio/Video Editing tool via Ethernet connection Symmetric controls centered on the top face. Minimal to No GUI, almost all controls exist physically Each control is designed to work as intuitively as possible w/o a true GUI. Box style packaging with an angled top face for easier use on a flat surface. Connections (Power/Ethernet) on the back face.
