TURKISH REPUBLIC THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION SAMSUN-HAVZA HAVZA HIGH SCHOOL As we are the candidate country to the EU,we are very eager to know other cultural values. As we are Turkish partner of the project, our school is in a disadvantaged area of Samsun / Havza. In our school the students are not in good social situations and also we have so many students having economical problems. We are public high school with 25 teachers and 430 pupils. It takes four years to graduate from our school. Some students can attend university after passing an exam called YGS.(University Exam) HAVZA HIGH SCHOOL

9th grades have the common cirriculum all over the country then they can apply to attend departments which they want to study. 9th grades have got compulsory lessons such as Maths,Physics, Foreign Language,Native Language,Turkish Literature, P.E., Chemistry,Biology,Geography,History. The students who are going to participate are in average years old and they received at least 5 years of English in school. But they are not so much interested in foreign languages like English. I hope this Project will help all of us to motivate them to English.

Our school has students and parents from social-economical disadvantaged area (villages) and the villages have a lot of houses in bad conditions, many families are poor. Most of them are dealing with farming in small fields. However their income is not enough to support their families’ needs. Therefore people in our region have to migrate to big cities because unemployment reaches high rates. Some students have to work after school to get the money necessary for living or they just help their parents farming. Our students have no other opportunities of coming into contact with students from other countries, of speaking English is a common issue. Our devoted teachers have the noble task of forming future members of society. For our students it is a big chance to contact with children of another cultural background and another socio-economic status.

OUR MISSION Our basic aim is to supply an educational atmosphere open to improvements and the use of contemporary teaching methods. In order to enrich this atmosphere, we understand the necessity of being open to many different kinds of scientific and creative studies proposed by our students. We intend to educate our students to be social and aware of their responsibility to their communities and the world, and dedicated to a life of creation and discovery in service of humanity.

OUR VISION In order to be a school which takes the lead and tries to be one of the top schools among the state schools, we follow closely a scientific breakthrough in the light of Atatürk's principles We aim to develop students’ awareness of being loyalty to Atatürk’s principles, and try to provide them with the sense of responsibilty for principles of Turkish National Education System, and also aim to get them democratic, open-minded, leader, respectful for human rights, and objective.
