ChitoGauze® PRO Overview #1018 / #30-0049 ChitoGauze PRO 3in x 4yds NSN# 6510-01-591-7740 #1017 ChitoGauze 4in x 4yds FDA: 510(k): K102546 FDA Indication: ChitoGauze PRO is a hemostatic dressing for the external, temporary control of severely bleeding wounds.

ChitoGauze - Mechanism of Action Slows the blood movement through dressing Offers a local hemostatic solution Chitosan provides for improved attachment & apposition of the dressing to the injury site Chitosan binds red blood cells and platelets on the dressing’s surface Provides for localized clotting independently from the normal clotting cascade* mitigates risk of emboli formation *Studies conducted by Prof. John Whitelock University of New South Wales in conjunction with an Australian ARC Linkage Grant.

ChitoGauze Antibacterial Properties Reduction of Microorganisms: ChitoGauze was tested for reduction of microorganisms against 26 microorganisms, including MRSA, VRE and A. baumannii. The log reduction data demonstrates the level of antibacterial effectiveness. ONLY battlefield tested hemostat with antibacterial properties Important for extended care and prolonged transport times Test Method: Degree of Antibacterial Activity: AATCC Test Method 100-2004 Assessment of Antibacterial Finishes on Textile Materials Swatches of dressing were inoculated with a > 6-log population of a test organism. After incubation, the microorganisms were eluted from the swatches by shaking in neutralizing solution. The number of microorganisms present in this liquid was determined, and the percentage reduction in the population of each was calculated.  Successful reduction is of at least 10,000 units (104 or 4 log reduction). The clinical utility of these results is unknown.

Instructions for Use The flexible, hemostatic ChitoGauze is easily applied and simple steps need to be followed. 1. Open foil pouch and remove z-folded ChitoGauze. 2. Apply ChitoGauze onto and in contact with the source of bleeding. Continue packing the dressing completely into wound track. Use enough ChitoGauze to fill the wound and contact ALL bleeding surfaces. a) If all of the dressing does not fit into wound cavity, use excess dressing to back the wound site. b) For larger wounds, more than one dressing may be required. 3. Apply pressure until bleeding is controlled (usually 2-3 min).

Securing and Steps for Removal 4. Wrap and secure dressing on wound to maintain pressure How and when do I need to remove the dressing? ChitoGauze can remain in place up to 48 hours. Dressing should easily peel away from the wound. If dressing has adhered* to the wound, irrigate with saline or water to facilitate removal. *Depending on the condition of the wound, the dressing may stick if left on wound beyond 48 hours.
