Photo Story Training Jeanne Jimenez March 31, 2009 EDTC 3332: Instructional Technology Practicum

Needs Assessment: The instructional training problem or opportunity is that teachers want/need to learn how to use Photo Story in order to create slideshows/presentations to document the school years activities. The proposed solution is to create a very user friendly training that will break down the different aspects of how to use Photo Story in order to create a slideshow presentation.

Instructional Goal: The instructional goal is that by the time all the teachers have finished going through the training they will be able to create their own slideshow/presentation using pictures and music to document the school years activities.

Performance Objectives: After completing this training, learners will be able to: Learners will be able to navigate through Photo Story. Learners will be able to upload pictures to their computer. Learners will be able to input pictures onto Photo Story. Learners will be able to edit pictures using Photo Story Learners will be able to incorporate music into their slideshows.

Assessment of Learning Outcomes: The type of summative assessment that will be used to evaluate the leaner's outcome will be for them to be able to develop their own slideshow/presentation using Photo Story. They should also be able to edit pictures and upload/incorporate music into their presentations.

Learner Characteristics: The intended audience for this training module is all the teachers that teach Pre-K thru fifth grade. Most of the teachers posses the skills to turn on and off a computer, use the internet, use the Microsoft programs and check their . The other skills that they need to posses is that of being able to use the internet to get graphics, upload pictures and music.

Learning Context: The intended instructional setting will be the CLS lab because it provides enough computers for the teachers that will be needing the training. The CLS lab also provides connection to the internet and a place to use a projector so everyone can follow along.

Instructional Strategies: Introduction Introduction: (a) Every wonder how Ms. Jimenez comes up with those beautiful slideshow presentations after every event on campus? Well the secret is being let out of the bag she uses Photo Story for Windows. With this program it allows you upload your pictures, edit them and add text and finally you are able to add music to bring your slideshow to life. I bet you thought she used Microsoft Power Point didn’t you? Though power point is good Photo Story gives those pictures a little extra something. (b) The instructional goal is that by the time all the teachers have finished going through the training they will be able to create their own slideshow/presentation using pictures and music to document the school years activities.

Instructional Strategies: Assessment. a) Being able to create their own slide show/presentation that will document this school years activities. b) Being able to upload pictures and incorporate music in their slide shows.

Instructional Resources: Teacher’s will need The Photo Story program Computer Internet Access Pen/Pencil and Paper Personal pictures Personal music

Training Module Blueprint: Upload pictures and music to a folder on the computer Double click on Photo Story. Click on browse and select pictures Place pictures in order you want them to present. Edit pictures (fix red eyes, crop, etc…) Add text to pictures Select music to go with the pictures Save and render presentation

Formative Evaluation: One strategy in which I intend to get my design plan evaluated would be by a “Small group evaluation”. Involving that I will have a few of the teachers come together and work on the training together in order to see how they do and what needs to be fixed. Another strategy in which I intend to get my design plan evaluated is by “Peer Evaluation”. I will get someone who is familiar with the program to go through the training to make sure it’s user friendly and understandable.

Summary In conclusion this training will allow for teachers to get familiar with the program by having everything broken down for them in several steps so that they don’t get overwhelmed with the program. The instructional goal is that by the time all the teachers have finished going through the training they will be able to create their own slideshow/presentation using pictures and music to document the school years activities. By the time they are done with this training they will be able to create presentations on their own to show to their students.
