Back to School! Ms. Morrison’s Science Class

General Procedures  Come into class QUIETLY. If you cannot do this, you will receive a strike.  You may only use the pencil sharpener BEFORE the bell. Once the bell rings, class has started. Failure to adhere will result in a strike.  Check the board as soon as you walk into class. Gather all materials needed before the bell rings. Once I begin class, NO ONE can get up for any reason. If you forgot something, I’m sorry, it is too late.  When class ends, pick up all trash around your desk.  DO NOT leave your textbook in my room. This will result in a strike.

If You Borrow A Textbook From Me… 1. Write your name on the left corner of the white board. 2. DO NOT erase your name after you put your book up. I will need to see the names incase a mess is left. 3. If a mess is left under my table when stacking books, EVERYONE who borrowed a book will receive a strike.

Class Rules 1. Respect yourself, your peers, and all school faculty 2. Keep a positive attitude the entire day. 3. Encourage others to do their best work. 4. You don’t have to be perfect, but be excellent.

How does your child earn their grade?  Science Notebooks- It is very important for you to keep up with your notebook on a daily basis. It can be easy to get behind with this. I keep a master table of contents in the classroom. ( points)  Classwork- Usually 10 points each. If this turns into homework and not returned the next day, it results in a zero.  Homework-Usually 10 points each, but sometimes more. Only given 1 or 2 nights a week, and some weeks not at all.  Tests- Usually 100 points each, sometimes 50 points. You will have plenty of time to study before the test.

Make Up Work  I have a section in my room where you child can find your makeup work.  If you are absent, when you return you will find your name next to your class period and complete all work listed on your card.  The due date is also written on the card.  I would like all make up work to be turned in within 3 days of the absence.

Oops Notes and Homework Excuses  Oops Notes- This is a letter to inform your parents of any issues you may be having in class. If you have to take this letter home, it is a result of one or more of the following: 1. Excessive talking 2. Not prepared for class 3. Being rude or disrespectful etc….  Homework Excuse- These are filled out by the YOU when homework is not turned in. It is not sent home and kept in my homework excuse file. If you have two or more homework excuse notes, I will call or arrange a time to talk with your parents.

My Blog  Please check my blog EVERYDAY!  You can get to my blog by going to the HMS website and clicking the link next to my name.

Strike Policy  The “strike week” runs from Thursday-Wednesday.  All Teachers enter the strikes they’ve given on Wednesdays.  If you receive detention, you will be given the notice on Friday.  If you receive a strike from me, you will be asked to initial on my strike log. So you can NEVER say that you didn’t know you got a strike!! Reasons for Strikes: 1. Disruption of Class 2. Disobeying Teacher 3. Gum, food, drinks in class 4. Tardy 5. Unprepared for Class 6. Cell phone, or other technology disruption

What I need from YOU 1. Check the homework board daily. 2. Write in the agenda daily. 3. Stay on top of assignments and make up work. 4. Put your name on everything! 5. Come to class with a good attitude. 6. Clean up after yourself! 7. Treat others the way you want to be treated!
