What is a Graphic Novel A sequential, comic-style narrative in comic-book format Appealing stories and engaging visuals Reaches out to reluctant readers, visual learners and others who may shy away from traditional, print- heavy pieces Offers the same benefits as regular books: New Vocabulary “Book Language” Stories and information to teach and spark imaginations 2

How to read a graphic novel Graphic novels are read left to right, just like traditional texts Going panel by panel, the dialog balloons, thought bubbles and sound effects are also read left to right or top to bottom as is appropriate 3
