PATTERNS Expose children to a variety of patterns from the real world. A child who expects things to make sense, looks for sense in things and from this sense, develops understanding. The following slides show a variety of pattern activities:

Use these 5 numbers to make a pattern. Give your rule for your pattern in your Math Journal. PATTERNS

My Journal: The pattern seen below is an example of one of the patterns possible for the five numbers on the previous screen. I chose this pattern because it was easy for me to see the relationship between the numbers. The pattern I saw was not in the numbers exactly, but in the numbers between the numbers. In between PATTERNS

PATTERNS Continue these patterns in your math journal:

PATTERN ANSWERS Can you write a short description of each pattern in your journal?

PATTERNS Continue these patterns on grid paper!! Is this pattern repeating, growing or radiating?

PATTERNS Continue these patterns on grid paper!!

PATTERNS Complete these patterns on a piece of grid paper!! Are these repeating, growing or radiating patterns?

PATTERNS

Continue this pattern on grid paper. Is this pattern repeating, growing or radiating?

PATTERNS Continue this pattern on grid paper. Is this pattern repeating, growing or radiating?

PATTERN INPUT OUTPUT Add the complete table to your math journal and write the rule you used to find each number. Please help find the missing numbers in this Input/Output table.

PATTERN INPUT OUTPUT How did you do?? Please help find the missing numbers in this Input/Output table.

PATTERN INPUT OUTPUT Add the complete table to your math journal and write the rule you used to find each number. Please help find the missing numbers in this Input/Output table.

PATTERN INPUT OUTPUT Design an Input/ Output table of your own... Please help find the missing numbers in this Input/Output table.

PATTERN On one square, the perimeter is four units. 1 square = 4units One unit is equal to the length of one side of this square. REMEMBER: So…….

PATTERN With two squares, the perimeter is six units. So….

PATTERN Make a table explaining the perimeter of three, four and five squares. In your Math Journal, show the strategy you used to solve this problem.

PATTERN Do you see a pattern? Do you see a repeating, growing or radiating pattern?

PATTERN * Using the pattern you discovered on the previous table, solve for the perimeter of a shape ten squares long……

PATTERN Can you go any further? Experiment in your Math Journal.

PATTERNS THAT’S ALL FOLKS! HOPE YOU ENJOYED OUR ACTIVITIES. Come back and see us again and again and again and again …...
