According to John Holland, most people are 1 of 6 personalities types (also called Holland’s codes or RIASEC):  Realistic (R): Likes to work with animals, tools, or machines; generally avoids social activities like teaching, healing, and informing others  Investigative (I): Likes to study and solve math or science problems; generally avoids leading, selling, or persuading people  Artistic (A): Likes to do creative activities like art, drama, crafts, dance, music, or creative writing; generally avoids highly ordered or repetitive activities  Social (S): Likes to do things to help people - like, teaching, nursing, or giving first aid, providing information; generally avoids using machines, tools, or animals  Enterprising (E): Likes to lead and persuade people, and to sell things and ideas; generally avoids activities that require careful observation and scientific, analytical thinking  Conventional (C): Likes to work with numbers, records, or machines in a set, orderly way; generally avoids ambiguous, unstructured activities CAREER KEY: YOUR PERSONALITY TYPE (RIASEC)

Holland says that there are 6 basic types of work environments (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional) and that people who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality type are more likely to be successful and satisfied For example, Artistic persons are more likely to be successful and satisfied if they choose a job that has an Artistic environment, like choosing to be a dance teacher in a dancing school CAREER KEY: BASED ON YOUR PERSONALITY TYPE (RIASEC) You + Work Environment = Satisfaction CAREER KEY: YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

Naviance’s Career Key is based on Holland’s 6 personalities types and his theory of career choice. Career Key's scientific matching system enables you to identify careers and college majors that match your set of interests, traits, skills and abilities. Now you will take the Career Key to discover which Holland personality types you are most like. You can then match the results with the most promising careers and college majors and learn about each one. CAREER KEY: HOW IT WORKS
