American Sign Language (ASL) is not a universal language. ASL is the language of Deaf people and culture in the USA and much of Canada. There are over 8 million deaf or hard of hearing people in the USA (*you do not need to copy the source, but here it is if you want it: J. Deaf Stud. Deaf Educ.
