A Diverse Population Africans Native Brazilians Around 6 million Indians lived in Brazil before the Portuguese arrived. Today, only 700,000 Indians live in Brazil in the Amazon Rainforest The Brazil government set up reservations to protect the Indians in the Amazon, but as more people use resources from the rainforest, more tribes are at risk. What other event in history does this sound like? After slavery ended, slaves escaped to northern regions similar to the living conditions in Africa and set up quilombos, an African word for housing. African’s created the national food, feijoada a bean stew, and also had an influence in the arts and music of Brazil.

A Diverse Population Europeans Asians Brazil was viewed as a place of wealth by Europeans. This made many Europeans want to move to invest in the coffee industry.
