ARKANSAS CAREER PATHWAY MODEL

ACT 743 – Definition of Program of study revision in 2015 legislative session A rigorous career and technical education program of study that links secondary education and postsecondary education and combines academic and technical education in a structured sequence of courses that progresses from broad foundation skills to occupationally special courses. A student may earn Postsecondary credits for career and technical education program of study courses that lead to a postsecondary credential, certificate, or degree may be awarded.

1. LEGISLATION AND POLICIES  Put into place state and local legislation or administratve policies that promote Program of Study Development/Implementation  Provide for state/local funding and other resources  Require secondary students to develop individual graduation and/or career plans

2. PARTNERSHIPS  Develop Regional Advisory Councils  Ongoing analyses of economic and workforce trends  Link existing initiatives that promote workforce and economic development  Identify, validate, and keep current technical and workforce readiness skills

3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT  Curriculum alignment from grade to grade and from secondary to postsecondary  Integrated academic and CTE curriculum and instruction  Foster innovative teaching and learning strategies

4. ACCOUNTABILITY AND EVALUATION  Student education and employment data record matching  Key student Perkins outcomes  Provide timely data to evaluate and improve Program of Study
