Presented by Karen Porter UM School of Business Administration & ImpactOnlineMarketing.com Integrated Online Marketing: BMKT 420 – Course Overview

Welcome to Integrated Online Marketing! Instructor: Karen Porter Office: GBB348 (Bullpen on 3 rd floor) Office hours: 9:45 – 11:00 T and Th and by appt. Cell (406) Please copy me at Webpage: OSMM.net dedicated to this course Syllabus: Find it on the website if you have not already received a copy (Syllabus tab)

Why This Course? Implements in 2012 due to trends in marketing NO course focusing on digital marketing at that time Digital marketing knowledge and experience is expected by hiring marketing managers This course will help you be competitive in today’s hiring market You will NOT learn everything you need to know In fact, you will likely find some of what you learn in this course to be outdated in just a few months – that’s the nature of digital marketing! My goal is to make you self-sufficient so you know where to turn to get and stay up to speed quickly

Course Textbook There isn’t one! Required readings / downloads / handouts are used to keep current with ever-changing online trends Subscribe to Hubspot Marketing blog: Read all blogs daily – will be unannounced quizzes on readings and lecture material There ARE required course expenditures: Set aside money now for these expenditures in late Feb 4 months of webhosting to support your class website (Important: do NOT buy now!) Cost about $40 without discounts (likely will be discounts) Domain name (Important: do NOT buy now!) Cost about $40 without discounts (likely will be discounts)

Other Things You Need Regular access to the internet and a computer and printer Jing (free) or other screen capture software PicMonkey.com graphics software (or Photoshop, etc) MailChimp (free edition) – To create an autoresponder Google AdWords account – To do keyword research Facebook Business Page (free) – You will need a personal FB account to set up the fan page –OR– use someone else’s acct. Facebook Ad Account (funding is optional – to build traffic to your page and/or website) Linked In (free) – You will set up and build out a Linked In account for your own professional use. DropBox (free) – For file sharing related to this course.

Successful Course Completion Attend all classes. We will start promptly at 8:10 on the dot. Please do NOT be late to class. Turn assignments in during class on the day due. ( ed assignments will not be accepted without prior permission). Take assignments seriously – do NOT get behind in the course. Be proactive. Work in advance, anticipate problems, do not wait until the last minute. Be self-sufficient. Review notes, explore options, search Google. Do not just call me to “fix.” (I will ask: “What have you done so far?”) If you believe these requirements are unfair or unrealistic given your personal circumstances, please drop the course now Staying current and attending regularly is absolutely mandatory to earn an A or B in this course.

A Very Hands-On Course 400 level course – high performance expectations Must be self-motivated and dedicated to do well No exams! However… You will be building a website with a blog and you will be graded on this project in five components (250 points) Unannounced quizzes on blog readings and lecture material (100 points) Hands-on projects that you will be graded on (150 points) Client “consulting” project (100 points) Graded on the +/- system (as are all Mktg courses)

Soooo…. Hang on for the ride – it will be fun! I look forward to meeting you in person next week Meanwhile, please do the following: Subscribe to the Hubspot blog and read the blogs on Friday and Monday – quiz on Tuesday, Feb 3 Subscribe to the OSMM.net blog (see subscribe button toward top of right sidebar on the website) – I will be regularly communicating with you via this blog Watch all videos posted to the Slide Deck and Notes tab on the website – you’ll find Thursday’s lecture there See you next Tuesday!
