Sustainable Development Benefits Strengthened national institutional capacities and human resource base for the implementation of the NBF and for safe use and application of modern biotechnology. Strengthened stakeholder participation and political support mechanisms. Established training procedures for risk assessment, risk management, inspection, monitoring, enforcement, evaluation and for measuring environmental and socio- economic impacts. Strengthened networks and information sharing in partnership with regional institutions.

Project priorities under GEF-4: BARBADOS Sub-Regional Workshop for GEF Focal Points in the Caribbean Havana, Cuba 8-10 July 2008 CHARACTERISATION AND ASSESSMENT OF SOURCES OF UNINTENTIONALLY PRODUCED PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANTS (uPOPs) AND THE APPLICATION OF BEST AVAILABLE TECHNIQUES (BAT) AND BEST ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES (BEP) Global Environmental Benefits Reduction of emissions of unintentionally produced POPs Sustainable Development Benefits  Contribute to the establishment of procedures and requirements to guide the management of sectors that impact on air quality in order to ensure minimization and, if possible, elimination of adverse environmental and health impacts from poor air quality (Barbados SusDev Policy 15.3);  Contribute to the implementation of programmes and activities to comply with and address national obligation as Party to relevant multilateral environmental agreements (Barbados SusDev Policy 15.4) - e.g. Stockholm Convention on POPs; and  Contribute to the implementation and execution of an appropriate, comprehensive and efficient solid waste management programme for Barbados (Barbados SusDev Policy 15.5)
