WHAT IS “SELF INSURANCE”? Premium Dollars Collected from Diocesan Locations Claims Dollars (very large diocesan deductible) Premiums for Excess Coverage Services Claims Administration Risk Management

4 PROPERTY COVERAGE COVERAGE HIGHLIGHTS Replacement cost on buildings and most contents (Industrial Appraisal) Outside Property - shrines, fences, playground equipment Employees property (does not include theft) - $500 in coverage Property of others - $5,000 in coverage Extra Expense COVERAGE EXCLUSIONS Settling, shrinkage, and expansion Wear and tear, defect, deterioration, vermin or termites, and corrosion Mechanical or electrical breakdown (subsequent loss is covered) Foundations below the undersurface, underground pipes

5 GENERAL LIABILITY COVERAGE Coverage extends to: – Parishes, schools, diocesan institutions, cemeteries, offices and agencies comprising the Diocese of Allentown – Employees and volunteers in the course and scope of their duties Coverage Includes: – Premises Liability- Counseling E&O – Products Liability- Host Liquor Liability - Incidental Medical Malpractice - Employment Practices Liability

6 Medical Payments Coverage – $5,000 in no fault coverage to cover out of pocket medical costs Not applicable to Employees Students (including CCD, CYO) Athletics – Coverage is excess to injured person’s primary health insurance, except medicare/medicaid

7 CRIME COVERAGE Employee / Volunteer fidelity Theft Depositors forgery **This coverage does not apply to the loss of the contents of any poor box, votive stand, vending machine, etc. Prior to consideration for claim coverage, all losses of this nature must be reported to the appropriate law enforcement officials.

AUTOMOBILE COVERAGE COLLISION - $200 deductible, $250 for buses COMPREHENSIVE - $100 deductible – Fire, theft, vandalism, hail, glass breakage RENTAL - $20 per day, $600 maximum TOWING - $50 limit AUTO LIABILITY NON-OWNED EXCESS AUTO LIABILITY – Provides excess liability coverage for volunteers/employees using their own vehicle on parish/school/diocesan business

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION Employees who sustain on-the-job injuries Provides wage loss and medical benefits In accordance with Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act Does not apply to volunteers Employer’s Report of Occupational Injury Or Disease – Attachment E List of Designated Health Care Providers - Employee Acknowledgement Form - Signed at hire AND when injured

10 BOILER / MACHINERY COVERAGE ($250 deductible per occurrence) Specific coverage provided by Hartford Steam Boiler Boiler / Air conditioning equipment covered on replacement cost for accidental breakdown – Accidental breakdown is defined as “any sudden and accidental breakdown that necessitates repair or replacement” except Deterioration, corrosion Wear & tear Leakage Breakdown of vacuum/gas tube or brush Breakdown of foundation Functioning of a safety device Computer & data processing equipment Spoilage Business interruption Boiler inspections – every two years per state requirements

RISK MANAGEMENT POLICIES Employee Terminations – Diocesan Policy - May 1993 requires direction from Mr. Ron Jacobs PRIOR to ANY employee termination – Failure to follow policy may result in denial of coverage

RISK MANAGEMENT POLICIES Employee Safety and Health Program Accident and Illness Prevention Program Required by Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, includes: – Employee Safety Handbook – Safety Training Video – Acknowledgement Form - personnel file – Blood borne Pathogen Training

STUDENT & VOLUNTEER ACCIDENT COVERAGE Purchased by Diocese Currently Bollinger in Short Hills, NJ administrates First $100, then excess of primary health coverage If student or volunteer does not have coverage, this becomes primary for specific accident only Claim forms are color specific and must be signed by parish or school official before supplying to parent of injured student or injured volunteer. Student Crisis Assistance Manual and Immediate Response Reference Guide Student Crisis Assistance Manual – Each school’s Emergency Preparedness Guide – Developed in conjunction with the Non-public schools consortium in Intermediate Units 14, 20, 21 and 29. – Distributed to all Diocesan schools - Spring 1996 – Revised 2006 Provides directives and procedures to be followed in specific crisis situations

Student Crisis Assistance Manual – Contents Ch. 1 – Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Ch. 2 – Child Abuse Ch. 3 – Death in the School Community Ch. 4 – Suicide Ch. 5 – Medical Emergency Ch. 6 – Natural Disasters – Fire, Tornado, Hurricane, Earthquake, flood, etc. Ch. 7 – Weapons and Violence – Intruder, bomb threats, firearms, gangs, etc. Ch. 8 – Custody Issues Ch. 9 – Missing Child

Asbestos (AHERA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act Federal laws requires each school to take the following actions: 1. Perform an original inspection and re-inspection every three years for asbestos containing materials. (includes trailers) 2. Develop, maintain and update an asbestos management plan and keep a copy at the school. – available AT ALL TIMES 3. Provide yearly notification to parents, teachers and employees 4.
