Human Geography Where Science and Social Studies Collide

The Best Definition? The study of where and why human activities are located where they are- for example: religions, cities, and businesses… Physical Geography? The study of natural forces such as climates and landforms

Case Study 1: A Big Mac Attack When you get hungry on a road trip, are you thinking about geography? How did McDonald’s go from 1 restaurant to 32,000 around the world? Human geographers want to know! Every place on earth is unique yet tied to global economy and culture…

Case Study 2: Hurricane Katrina in 2005 Physical geography explained the natural force: hurricane formation and flooding Human geography concerned with the uneven impact of destruction: victims were primarily poor (lived in lowest elevation, lacked money to flee)

Globalization p. 31 article Connectedness and interdependence of world markets and businesses Consumer Goods Music (global pop)* Governments?* Globalization and 9/11 Radical opposition to American globalization…symbols were attacked (World Trade Center and the Pentagon)
