What is your web presence going to look like? Blog Brochure Community Image Gallery News Storefront

What is a Content Management System (CMS)? Awesome

Is a CMS right for my group? Will your content be moving? Will you have many content creators? Do you want RSS feeds? Will you want different people to be able to do different things? Do you want content to appear different places

What CMSs are out there?

Plinkit Webpage authoring software Smallest of libraries can have an attractive, easy-to-update web page No need to know HTML or CSS. If you can copy and paste from a word processing program, you can use Plinkit. Plinkit uses an open source software called Plone Developed in Oregon (LSTA grant) Oregon invited other states to join in -- Illinois joined in ADA Compliant!

Top Ten Reasons to Use Plinkit 10. The template is ready to go, just add your content. 9. There is a page for Trustees so the library can meet the obligations of the open meetings act. 8. There is a calendar. 7. Community organization information can be added. 6. It is easy to update from any computer with Internet access. 5. News items can be entered and scheduled to go live at a later date and at the same time be scheduled for removal. 4. You can have cool stuff like Facebook, video, pictures, and chat. 3. The online catalog can be linked to your Plinkit webpage. 2. It is easy, or as one librarian has said, “Stupid Proof!” 1. Your patrons have 24/7 access to the library and its resources.

Where Can I Get Plinkit? 8 out of the 9 regional library systems have members using Plinkit. Alliance Library System—Suzanne Baschieri or Lee Logan DuPage Library System—Jane Plass Lincoln Trail Libraries System—Donna Schaal Lewis & Clark Library System—Julia Pernicka Metropolitan Library System—Wesley Smith North Suburban Library System —Christina M. Johnson Rolling Prairie Library System—Doris McKay or Bev Obert Shawnee Library System—Troy Brown or Loretta Broomfield

Other Plinkit Information o The annual membership fee for Illinois Plinkit is $ o Your website will be hosted at the Shawnee Library System. o Troy Brown is in charge of maintenance, updating and backing up the Plinkit servers. o Rolling Prairie Library System collects the annual fee. o Each regional library system involved provides training for you. o New features are being added all the time (especially if they have been requested by the members). o A free URL will be provided: YourLibraryName.lib.il.us o Or you can keep your own URL
