Standard Grade Graphic Communication The Illustration and Presentation Folio

Reminder :- Your Standard Grade course consists of 3 elements > > Drawing Abilities (DA) are assessed in an exam > Knowledge and Interpretation (KI) is assessed in an exam > Illustration and Presentation (IP) work is too difficult to put in an exam, so > >it is assessed from a collection of drawings (a folio) which you will prepare over a period of several weeks.

Your book will tell you everything you need to know about your folio - from page 51 onwards.

This is the list of all the skills (or “learning outcomes”) you have to cover. 2D and 3D Charts and Graphs (at least one computer-generated) Selective application of Colour Shading Tone and Rendering Layout and Lettering Display Modelling CAD CAD using a Library General Draughtsmanship

This version of the list ->> -->> will allow you keep track of your own progress by putting drawing numbers in the boxes as you complete them. You will have your own copy to keep up to date. Notice that it even tells you what page in your book to look up for information.

2D and 3D graphs and charts Note that, with good planning, high quality items in this category could count towards the Layout and Lettering and Display categories as well. 3 items required - at least one must be computer-generated

Shading Tone and Rendering Layout and Lettering Display These skills can all be covered using the same items in your folio Selective Application of Colour

To achieve the requirement in this section you will be expected to produce work created using various colour mediums eg colour pencils, pastels, colour marker-pens, and a computer illustration package. You will also have to write a Colour Theory Report explaining the rationale behind the colours you have chosen for one of the pieces.

Modelling For this you have to show graphically how a 3 dimensional object would be made. This requirement is most often achieved by drawing the development of some type of packaging. To get a good grade in this category, you would have to show the steps leading up to the final design. Pieces of modelling work might well contribute to the requirement for selective application of colour, layout and lettering, and display etc.

CAD In this category you will be expected to produce both 2D and 3D drawings with name boxes, dimensions and other technical detail using ParaCAD.

CAD using a Library You will be expected to produce a CAD drawing composed, in part, of pre-drawn items imported from a collection of other files - a “library”. In the above drawing, the bathroom outline was drawn. Then the shower, sink, loo, and bath were imported from the library and resized, re- orientated and repositioned as required.

General Draughtsmanship Your teacher will assess this by picking your best pieces of work from all the categories.
