Anxiety – Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older (18% of U.S. population). Depression – Depression affects approximately 14.8 million American adults, or about 6.7 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year. – Persistent depressive disorder, or PDD, is a form of depression that usually continues for at least two years.

Depression- “a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness and poor concentration.” World Health Organization 10 percent of adults are currently experiencing the symptoms of major depression! The second most common cause of disability worldwide Women are twice as likely as men to have depression Chronic symptoms tend to appear, on average, in girls around ages 12-13

People with a strong belief in a personal, concerned God, were 75% more likely to OVERCOME depression when combined with proper medical treatment!

Overcoming Depression 1 Kings 19:1-10

Elijah V.3- Ran for his life Beersheba ( miles south of Jezreel) V.4- He went a days journey into the wilderness miles V.5- He lay down and slept V.6- He lay down again

Discouragement V.10- I have been very zealous for the Lord Unlike Israel who has: Forsaken Your covenant Torn down Your alters Killed Your prophets Now they’re trying to kill me, the only prophet left in all Israel 18:13- Obadiah hid 100 prophets of the Lord V.4- I am no better than my fathers

V.9- The Word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him What are you doing here, Elijah? Elijah- They are trying to kill me!! Where is here? V.8- Horeb, the mountain of God V.4- Elijah went a days journey into the wilderness and requested to die V.8- He went forty days and forty nights to Horeb Horeb/Sinai is about 200 miles south of Beersheba V.9- [A] cave (The Cave)

The Provisions of God V.7- The journey is too great for you V.6- Bread cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water Vs.7-The Angel commanded Elijah to wakeup and eat V.8- So he arose and ate and drank This sustained him for forty days and nights The Power of God V.11- The Lord was passing by A great and strong wind shattered the rocks into pieces An earthquake shook the ground A fire raged

The Presence of God V.12- Sound of a gentle blowing V.13- Elijah covered his face (humility) V.13- What are you doing here Elijah V.14- Elijah gives the same self-centered response The Purpose of God V.15- The Lord said to him, “GO, RETURN V.19- So he departed from there
