With victory in sight, the Allied leaders decided at Yalta to divide up Germany into 4 zones after the war. Why? To weaken it but without repeating the mistakes of the TOV.

In a famous 1946 speech, Winston Churchill said an “iron curtain” had fallen over Europe. This referred to an imaginary line separating democratic from communist Europe.
