Time Management Tips to Help Manage Your Time More Efficiently

Tips for Time Management List all Your Activities Prioritize Those Activities Set Goals Use your Agenda!!! Keep a Schedule

List All Your Activities List all your activities on a piece of paper. This can be considered your “To Do” list. Include how much time you think you spend doing each activity. BE HONEST!!! Activities can include homework, studying, clubs, sports, socializing, etc. (Anything you can think of that takes up your time)

Prioritize Your “To Do” List Assign each item you listed a letter based on how important it is and when it needs to be completed. For Example: –A. Needs to be done today. –B. Can wait until items labeled A are finished. –C. Not that important and can wait until a later time or day.

Prioritize Your “To Do” List Be Realistic –You may want to list something like studying for your next Social Studies test as a “C” item, but you know you need to pass that test because if you fail you will not be allowed to go play baseball which you labeled as “A”.

Setting Goals Choose goals that you have a reasonable chance of achieving. (Getting an A on your next Math exam) Goals should be clearly defined and have a specific plan of action (Study Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 30 minutes so you can pass the test in Math on Thursday) Goals that are set must be important enough to you so that you are sure to follow through with the plan that you set to achieve them.

Use Your Agenda! Keep your agenda with you at home and at school!

List your goals here. You can list your activities here. Don’t forget to prioritize.

Follow a Schedule What is a schedule? a list showing the order in which something is planned to be done

Follow a Schedule Use the information we talked about today to fill out a schedule that works best for you. Be sure to include things like homework, studying, socializing, extracurricular activities, family time, T.V. time, etc. Use a pencil so you can erase changes.

Points to Remember Schedule time for yourself and social activities. Keeping your life well-rounded is very important. Be Flexible. Plans can change quickly and those changes may be out of our control. Be sure to work around those changes and make the best of it.

Points to Remember The key to managing your time is to stay on top of both your agenda and your schedule. If you never write in your agenda book and never bother to look and see what you have written on your schedule, neither are serving their purpose very well.

Time Management What does it mean to “List All Your Activities”? What might we call this list? How do we prioritize the activities listed? Name a goal you have chosen and what steps will you take to achieve that goal? What can we list on top of each page in our agenda? What can we list on the bottom or side? Today we discussed 3 ways to organize yourselves. Using an agenda, a schedule, and a to do list. Which works best for you?
