All people need to be treated with respect. Dignity of risk, age appropriateness, personal satisfaction and freedom of choice are fundamental to the work we do. The Goal of the Inclusive Recreation Program is to take down the barriers that prevent people with special needs to participate in recreation Programs.

Resources We are able to seek out other service providers to become part of the recreation team. Occupational, physiotherapists and Speech are available for consultation with the child’s parent as well as the inclusion facilitator.

Resources Behaviour Management of York/Simcoe – services of full-time behaviour consultant for camp experience Development of a “Tips and Strategies” report designed to address any person who is accommodating the child in a recreation program.

RESOURCES Children’s Treatment Network Consultation for family and inclusion facilitator/camp is available from an occupational therapists, physiotherapist and speech. Kinark Child and Family Services A Child and Youth Worker is available for consultation.

RESOURCES Inclusion Facilitators are supports within the inclusive camps and recreation programs We co-partner with recreation departments to hire, train and supervise staff

Initiatives Mikey’s Place – Available subsidized camp experiences Kinark Child and Family Services – Available supported camp experiences New Path Child and Family Services – Available supported and subsidized camp experiences.

Summer Registration Inclusion Facilitators are available for families for 1 camp experience per child. Cost is NIL for Inclusion Facilitator Parents are responsible for payment to the camp, unless other arrangements have been made. Camps are usually 1 week in length, costs range between $ $ per.

Summer Registration A pre-registration form is required for the Inclusive Recreation Resource Program. Date of camp is determined via available space. Inclusion facilitators are attached to the child and the specific week, not to the camp. Parents have a choice of camp within the Parks & Recreation Departments

Steps Determine camp and some date options. Fill out a pre-registration form and to Await confirmation the space is available for date options. Register with camp.

Pre-registration is confirmed Inclusive Rec will be in touch with family to confirm details. Behaviour consultant, and/or physio / occupational therapist may contact family to complete planning process. All pertinent information is transferred to the Parks & Recreation Departments and their Inclusion Facilitators. Parks & Recreation Departments make contact with family.

Skill Building Clinics

We work towards building on PHYSICAL SKILLS which consists of two main aspects namely SPORT SKILLS and MOVEMENT DEVELOPMENT SKILLS. Sport skills consist of the basic rules and techniques which are associated with sports. Movement Development Skills actually underlie the sport skills.
