What are we evaluating Creativity  Design  Choice of media  Lay-out  Unique approac h

Questions  Does this work sample offer something new, a fresh approach, something that hits you between the eyes, that make you feel – I wish I thought about this?  Am I not subjective?  How will the target audience feel about this – would it be new to them?

What are we evaluating?  Content  Writing, style and editing  Relevance of the information  Quality and relevance of the photographs/images

Questions  What were they trying to communicate?  Are the messages clear?  If you were in the target group, would you appreciate the message?  Were the photographs cropped to enhance their impact  Were the photographs used effectively – even if they are not high quality

Mark up if  The messages reflect the objectives  Clear, consistent, clever, messages  Messages are structured to interest the target audience  The branding is consistent  All the content elements form a unity

The strategic intent and outcome What to look for  It should be clear why the project was carried out  It should solve a problem, fill a need, or help to leverage an opportunity  Ideally, the need should be identified by formal or informal research  Explanation of the characteristics of the target audience  How they used the resources available

Mark up for...  Explanation of the need  Indicate why the project was important  Indicate what they wanted to achieve  Formal or informal research used  Describe the target audience  A budget or clear explanation of how resources were optimised

Adjudication of the presentation What to look for  Does the work sample contain all of the elements and support material described in the plan?  The quality of the language  Is the entry well written and produced, making it easy to evaluate?  Did the entrant make an effort to create a positive image  Does the work sample contain all of the elements and support material described in the plan?

Mark up for  An explanation that is easy to understand  Quality writing – in the workplan and the project  The sample material is sufficient  Ease of evaluation  An effort made to make it easy to evaluate – headings, etc  Overall quality of the project

As a final check, ask yourself  Could this plan be used to show others what works?  Is it sensible, thorough, convincing and logical?  Was the project clearly under control and responsibly managed?

Complete the evaluation  Do the calculations  Ask yourself, is this worth an Award of Excellence  Review your comments – are they kind, helpful, would you like somebody to say this about your work?  Is there elements in this project that needs to be rewarded separately?

Enjoy the process!
