Agenda What is an Aerotropolis? Why should we do it? Where do we do it? When do we do it? Who is involved? How do we proceed?

What is an ”Aerotropolis” Aerotropolis (air.oh.TROP.ul.lis) n. A city in which the layout, infrastructure, and economy are centered around a major airport. A Planning Model – as opposed to haphazard development that could result An economic hub / development strategy - extending out from P.T.I. into the Piedmont Triad Region which could consist of warehouse & distribution facilities, office buildings, light manufacturing firms, convention centers, and business-class hotel accommodations, upscale retail mix, restaurants, entertainment, recreation, golf courses, and single and multiple-family housing all linked to the airport via roads, expressways (aerolinks), and rail lines (aerotrains). Speedy delivery of goods is also at the center of Dr. Kasarda's theory of what he calls the aerotropolis, a population and business center formed around an airport in the way that cities once formed around ports or crossroads. —Michael Brink, "Officials Are Trying to Raise a City in the Shadow of Detroit's Airport," The New York Times, November 27, 2002
