“What you give is what you get.” Lozano-Hemmer’s work deals a lot with presence Work often uses the audience as an element of the work A lot of pieces record (whether visually as in Sandbox, as a pulse in all his Pulse pieces, or as the objects they give up in Please Empty Your Pockets) - Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Art 21 After working for twenty years at the intersection of performance, architecture, and critical studies, I’m very curious about creating platforms for self-representation and participation. My work is incomplete and experimental in nature. The platforms require people to participate, they require people to be aware of the events and then take the piece in a direction that suits them. -Rafael Lozano-Hemmer said during an interview for Art 21 when asked to talk about his workinterview for Art 21
