Newspaper Articles Madisonville receives grant money to use for recycling By Cory Stark Posted by Kelsey Wheatcroft - MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) - Going green in Madisonville. The city receives grant money to use for recycling, meaning more places to drop off reusable paper and plastics. This week the City of Madisonville received a 60 thousand dollar state grant to improve it's recycling program. The money will help buy equipment and expand the city's recycling efforts to area schools. City Development Director Daron Jordan says, "We are not in the school system right now, doing a concerted effort. We have some work that we will start with several schools that we will start this first year and help them recycle some of their newspapers and magazines." The city will also purchase new recycling bins for the recycling center. Hopkins County has also recently expanded its recycling services. The county now offers drop off boxes to recycle electronics at eight county convenient centers. County Sanitation Director Roy Day says the county saves 36 dollars for every ton of electronics not shipped to the landfill. He says that could save thousands of dollars per year. Madisonville officials do not anticipate any revenue from its recycling program, however says it will have a environmental impact. The city hopes to purchase new recycling equipment within the next month.

…and News Articles Collection planned for hazardous household waste By DAVID¿BROCK 10:42 a.m. EDT, September 29, 2011 Donna Fechter has been recognized statewide for obtaining and administering grant money to address litter, recycling and used tires, but next month she will take on removing some of the most harmful materials before they make it to a landfill or worse. Fechter, the county’s solid waste coordinator, obtained $16,250 to use for a household hazardous waste collection for Boyle and Mercer county residents, the first event of its kind to collect everything from used brake fluid to various cleaning products. It’s something Fechter said is necessary because many of the substances end up accumulating for years. “

Sometimes we even get in on the Act 0928 Metcalfe Recycling Program.jpg Gina Kinslow / Glasgow Daily Times Glasgow Daily Times | Posted: Monday, August 4, :06 pm Officials with the Kentucky Division of Waste Management turned out Wednesday for a ceremony commemorating the opening of the new recycling center in Metcalfe County.
