Eastleigh District Adult Recruitment Campaign ‘Staffing the Adventure’

Aims and Objectives To recruit up to 50 new adults into Eastleigh Scouting To raise the profile of Scouting in Eastleigh

Publicity Leaflets in ‘freebies’ to all Eastleigh District post codes Advert placed in Eastleigh Borough News – delivered to all households Parent packs for all Groups Posters for all Groups Letters to local companies

The Launch Saturday 6 th November Wells Place (outside Partners) and inside Swan Centre Set up from 8.30 am County Trailer – Climbing Tower – Shelterbox display Support from all Groups!

Young Spokespeople Training Sunday 17 th October 1 st Eastleigh HQ Supported by County For young people from each Group – Scouts/Explorers Putting a young face on Eastleigh Scouting Support from all Groups/Units!

The Welcome evening Monday 22 nd November 1 st Eastleigh HQ Module 1 DVD – welcome to Scouting Assistance with Form AA Explanation of next steps Refreshments Supported by all Groups!

Training support Planned collective training evenings for all new recruits Possibility for existing leaders to join in and advance their own training Aim is to support training to make it easier and quicker to complete Training should be supported by all Groups!

Review and repeat How did we do? Is the campaign worth repeating? Can we do if differently? Feedback from all Groups welcome!

What are we after ? Adults of all ages and of all skill levels whatever time they can give Adults who like children and young people 50 adults wanted – what number will we consider a success ? One good new section leader? 20 new volunteers ? CAMPAIGN PROGRAMME

NOW – this week Groups to submit editorial to local community/Church/School newsletters Groups to list tasks that they need doing – from those that take an hour a month (ie Notice boards) to the many that take longer

Sunday October 17 th at 1 st Eastleigh HQ Training for young spokespeople – now recruiting suitable young people! One hour briefing for adult support team – for all those helping out with the Launch event (from am)

Week commencing October 24 th Groups: distribute posters and leaflets to local shops/ libraries/schools/surgeries (docs/dentists/vets) District: begin to monitor/record/respond (DC letter) to telephone calls/ offers Oct 28 th : Distribution of 10,250 flyers with free papers to SO houses Media releases issued to radio/tv/newspapers

WEEK COMMENCING NOVEMBER 1st Groups to distribute to all members the parent ‘ mud’ folder, containing –Letter from GSL (suggested draft available) –Leaflet District to provide literature to 3 x large local employers as pilot to evaluate response

Saturday November 6 th Launch 9.00 – 4.30 Site 1: Wells Place - climbing wall and County trailer Site 2: Swan Centre – static display including Shelter Box (to give flyer about donations, not collecting) Request: We are seeking a ‘personality’ who will gain media attention by scaling climbing wall – any ideas?

Response to enquiries District will continue daily monitoring/ recording responding to s/Tel calls ‘DIRECT TO GROUP’ VOLUNTEERS. They will remain ‘yours’ but please pass them through the system !

Welcoming new volunteers All will be invited to a ‘welcome’ on Monday November 22 nd 7: 30 at 1 st Eastleigh HQ DVD intro Outline of support available Completion of required documentation Groups to have at least one member present to help please

Monitoring progress of volunteers Although from November 22 nd we would hope all new volunteers will be with Groups, the usual monitoring will occur and they will be contacted occasionally by District so we can evaluate their progress and this can inform future recruitment and retention. It is intended that the training programme will commence in January
